About OTRO

The Opa-Locka Tenants Rights Organization (OTRO), a group of minority small-businesses, many who have operated at Opa-Locka Airport for  more than 20 years.

  • Our sole demand is to be able to stay where we are with reasonable long-term leases from Miami-Dade Aviation

SaveOpaLockaAirport.com is clearing house for all news, press, happenings, and information regarding the tennants struggle to keep their home at Opa Locka Airport.

OTRO has filed an economic discrimination complaint with the FAA, which oversees the airport and protects the public from unfair policies.  OTRO has also filed a complaint with the United States Department of Justice for discrimination and disparate treatment against the Hispanic community.

The legal complaints stem from the County granting a no-bid contract to land developer AA Acquisitions (The Adler Group affiliate), giving a long term lease to them and other airport tenants by carving them out of the AA Acquisition development lease. AA Acquisition then proceeded to  begin to force out these businesses by making demands that the tenants  enter into development leases that would increase their rent two or three  times what the tenants have been paying to Miami-Dade County. Shortly  after, tenants filed the FAA complaint against the County. AA Acquisition  then proceeded to file evictions against these tenants, who have been  good standing tenants of the airport for more than 20 years.

This is a time where businesses should be kept alive, not destroyed. The  County has no long-term policy to assure the viability for these small aviation businesses. This is blatant economic injustice and a death warrant for these businesses and dozens of jobs of aviation employees supporting their families.
